Your health and emotions are more connected than you might think. While you can’t always control what happens around you, you can control how you respond—and your emotions have the power to influence your environment. Emotions (or “E-Motions”) are simply energy in motion, and like air, they need to flow freely.
When emotions flow naturally, you can express yourself clearly and authentically. But when energy becomes blocked, it can stifle communication, create unhealthy interactions, and prevent you from manifesting the life you want. Interestingly, it’s not just repressed emotions that disrupt your energy; excess emotions can also throw you off balance.
Let’s explore five significant emotions and how they influence your energy:

How Emotions Impact Your Energy
Fear: Heavy and immobilizing, fear sinks your energy like concrete boots. This is where the expression “frozen with fear” comes from—it traps you in inaction.
Anger: Hot and volatile, anger rises quickly like a tornado. Unchecked, it can lead to explosive reactions, scattering your energy and control.
Joy: Light and expansive, joy disperses energy, much like the scorching sun on a summer day. While pleasure is wonderful, too much (or forced joy) can leave you feeling drained. It’s okay to not always be OK.
Worry: Slow and stifling, worry diminishes energy like oppressive humidity, blocking the natural flow of emotions.
Sorrow: Profound and immobilizing, sorrow withers your energy, much like autumn leaves crumbling underfoot. It can sap your motivation and trap you in an emotional prison.
Move Your Energy
When your energy is blocked or stagnant, there are effective ways to release it and get back into flow. Healthy emotional expression doesn’t happen by accident—it requires deliberate action. Here are three powerful methods to move your energy and keep your emotions flowing:
1. Physical Movement
Physical activity benefits your body, moves stuck energy, and supports your mind. To shift your energetic flow, engage in intentional and mindful movement practices like yoga, Qigong, or tai chi. These activities are designed to build and direct your life force energy, helping you release what no longer serves you.
2. Aromatherapy
Your sense of smell has a direct connection to your brain, making aromatherapy a powerful tool for balancing your emotions. Essential oils can stimulate energy flow, soothe your mind, and heal your soul. For example:
Lavender promotes relaxation.
Peppermint invigorates and energizes.
Citrus scents uplift and inspire.
You can apply oils to your pulse points, diffuse them into the air, or incorporate them into meditation or self-care rituals.
3. Sound Healing

A sound bath is a deeply relaxing experience where vibrations from instruments like singing bowls, gongs, and chimes guide your brain into a calm and meditative state. These vibrations cleanse your energy, reduce stress, and promote clarity.
Sound healing benefits include:
Calming the nervous system.
Reducing fatigue and improving sleep.
Enhancing spiritual well-being.
Out-of-the-Box Healing: Breathwork
Sometimes, to truly release stuck emotions, you need to get out of your head and into your body. Breathwork is one of the most powerful tools for emotional release and healing.
Your body is an incredible gift designed to keep you alive and restore balance. When emotions aren’t released through tears, words, or noise (like laughter or screams), they don’t just disappear—they’re stored in your body. Repressed emotions can wreak havoc on your physical and mental health, leading to negative behaviors like overeating, smoking, or excessive drinking to suppress those feelings.
Breathwork intentionally moves air through your body, dislodging stuck emotions so they can surface and be released. It’s as if your body is saying, “Thank you for finally coming to get this. Can we let it go now?”
My Experience with Breathwork
I’ve attended two breathwork classes, and each one was a completely different but transformational experience.

In my first class, I went in with curiosity and no expectations. The room was filled with light and collective energy—everyone was there to heal. As I began the breathwork, I found myself resisting the emotions that wanted to rise. My body responded with heaviness, numbness, and pain. Finally, when it came time to scream into a pillow, I couldn’t do it. But the attempt opened an emotional floodgate, and I sobbed uncontrollably.
Afterward, I felt lighter and more positive, like a weight had been lifted.
In my second class, I entered with specific affirmations (I AM Statements). This time, a single word appeared in my mind, sparking a cascade of thoughts that transformed into empowering actions (I WILL Statements). I cried again, but this time, I felt clarity, strength, and purpose.
Empower Yourself to Release Emotions
Healing often requires vulnerability, but it’s in those moments that the greatest transformations occur. Whether through breathwork, sound healing, or other intentional practices, the goal is to keep your energy in motion.
Step outside your comfort zone. Seek out breathwork or sound healing classes in your area. Go with an open mind and the intention to heal. You'll still benefit from the energetic shift even if you don’t experience an emotional release.
